Top New SUVs of 2018

Are you on the market for a new SUV? If so, then it’s time to get excited over the 2018 model year’s offerings. The newest SUVs are already appearing on showroom floors, and we’ve evaluated many of the top-rated models to bring you our five favorites. In no particular order, we’re most thrilled over the new Audi Q5, the Range Rover Velar, the Alfa Romeo Stelvio, the Ford Expedition and the Chevy Equinox. Before calling your local dealerships for test drives, read on to learn more about these hot new SUVs.

First up is the 2018 Audi Q5, which is positioned among the most stylish and luxurious compact SUVs on the market. The new Q5 gets some styling refinements with a larger front grille and new LED lights, and the body is sleeker while weighing 200 pounds less than its predacessor. Under the hood, buyers can choose from either a 2.0-liter turbocharged four-cylinder engine or a 3.0-liter turbocharged V6 that pumps out 354 horsepower. Want all-wheel drive? That comes standard on the Q5. In addition to being safer on the road, you’ll ride comfortably in adjustable leather seats with climate control, premium audio and numerous other bells and whistles.

Or there’s the bold 2018 Range Rover Velar, which is certain to turn heads when you pull up to the ski resort. Available for a base price of close to $50,000, this third-row SUV can be upgraded with a supercharged 3.0-liter, 380-horsepower V6 engine that moves the rig from zero to 60 miles per hour in under 9 seconds. Driving off road is easier with an air suspension system and optional sport-tuned steering. Inside, you get several seating options, a 3G wireless hotspot, climate control, driving assistance and all kinds of safety perks.

For a change of pace, check out the sporty 2018 Alfa Romeo Stelvio. This smaller SUV blends the utility of an SUV with the prowess of a coupe, packing an efficient 2.0-liter four-cylinder engine that pumps out 280 horsepower. If that’s not enough, you can upgrade with a twin-turbo V6 that generates a whopping 505 horsepower. The Stelvio tops off its fun-filled package with a front wishbone suspension and patented rear axle for sublime handling.

How about the new Ford Expedition? This tried-and-true model has undergone some changes for the 2018 model year, with the biggest shift being its new aluminum body mounted on a steel frame, similar to the Ford F-150 pickup. Interior technology is mostly unchanged, although the Expedition gets a styling overhaul and some thrilling new engine options (while keeping what makes it great, such as its 3.5-liter EcoBoost V6.).

Last is the 2018 Chevy Equinox, which hits dealerships with a complete redesign. A quick look at the Equinox reveals a more aerodynamic design. Look closer, and you’ll find standard chrome trim and rear seats that fold down flat for maximum cargo room options. The new Equinox gets three turbocharged engine options which are balanced by several cutting-edge safety features such as lane-keep assist and rear cross-traffic warnings with accident mitigation. It’s a solid choice for any family.

Now is a great time to buy if you’ve been waiting to get behind the wheel of a new SUV. These top-rated SUVs can help jumpstart your search. With so many great options to choose from, though, your favorite SUV might be one that didn’t make our list.
