Stool or fecal matter is usually what absorbs fluids into the intestine. When this is all combined with the inside movement of the intestine, this is what gets the fluids through without difficulty. If the fecal matter remains in the colon area for too long, or takes its time moving around in the area, this is what causes constipation.
When this happens, the body will reabsorb the fluids. The stool will also find it hard to move down to and out of the anus and rectum. If the fecal matter gets lodged, more fluid will accumulate and the colon will stretch. This means that everything will keep on filling up. If a child experiences Constipation, different symptoms may occur. However, this all depends on how much blockage has occurred.
Constipation In Both Adults And Children
Constipation may develop into a chronic condition. It may also only last for a short time. It can also come when you least expect it to. If an adult gets this condition, it is because they do not have enough dehydration, physical exercise, or dietary fiber. They may also be making the wrong food choices. Disease, meditation and medical conditions may also interrupt with normal digestive processes. As a result, constipation may occur.
Children may also experience these things. Although, physical activity does not take part in this for them. If a child is being potty trained, they may be afraid to pass a stool into the toilet. Others will only use the toilet if at home. When this happens, their bodies will absorb the liquid and their fecal matter will become dry. As a result, this will get stuck in the colon. Professional physicians have said that acute constipation is very normal for children. It normally happens unexpectedly and does not go for long.
Signs Of Constipation In Children
If a child is purposely avoiding going to the toilet, they may clench their buttock muscles. They may also appear to be dancing. Smearing in underwear from the fecal matter that has been building up inside the rectum and forcing outward may also occur. Urinary inconsistency can also play a part, particularly as the stool presses against the child’s bladder. This may cause the child to wet themselves during the day or night. Complaints about cramping or abnormal discomfort may also come from the child.
When To Visit Your Doctor
If constipation is occurring for two weeks with no other symptoms consider taking your child to your doctor. Other symptoms may or may not include: weight loss, fever, vomiting, bloody stools and abdominal swelling.
